Typhoon Morakot recently caused severe damage in Taiwan. The Hot Spring Hotel (pictured) in East Taiwan, was destroyed by the typhoon, and 5 shops completely submerged by the flood. Mr. Chao Qihong, Mayor of Pingdong County, said that the disaster is the most severe in the last 50 years.

The whole of South Taiwan was flooded, with 30,000 people isolated.President Ma is took charge of disaster relief.

The heavily affected areas had no power or telephone. Many people could not contact their relatives to see if they are safe. According to Taiwan Central News, thousands of people were moved to safety in higher areas.

After Typhoon Morokot caused widespread havoc, a web blogger in Taiwan checked into Taiwan Central Weather Bureau's satellite display, and found this photo of a cloud that is similar to a human figure pouring water onto Taiwan.
